Africalia

Africalia believes that creativity is a solid basis for a new African economy. Art, culture and creativity are fundamental for communities and individuals.

Culture is what makes us human. It is a basic right. Creativity and imagination allow for emancipation and liberation. Taking part in culture is as necessary as water for people in order to grow and it stimulates global change, both social and political. Creativity is not a luxury; it is an inexhaustible, clean, peaceful resource creating long-lasting decent jobs.

Since 2001 we have been teaming up with artists and organisations working in a wide range of contemporary disciplines: audiovisual, performing arts, literature and visual arts. Our mission is to support, collaborate with, structure and build networks of artists in order to put culture and creativity at the centre of economical innovation and social transformation in Africa. We also involve the Belgian cultural sector in drawing the attention of its audiences to African creativity.
